Test & Tag

Test and tag is the inspection and electrical safety testing of portable appliances, with a dated tag recording the result. In New Zealand it is the accepted way to show that appliances at work sites, offices and rentals are safe and compliant. eCertify's qualified team test and tag across Auckland.

What test and tag covers

Any portable appliance that plugs into a socket can be tested and tagged: power tools, extension leads, computers and monitors, kitchen appliances, heaters, cleaning equipment and more. Each item gets a visual inspection, an electrical safety test, and a dated tag recording the result and the next test due date.

Who needs it

  • Construction and trade sites. Site rules almost always require current tags on every tool and lead before they come on site. Testing for hostile environments is required every 3 months.
  • Offices and commercial premises. Regular testing is the accepted way to meet your health and safety duty to keep electrical equipment safe, with most office equipment on a 5-yearly cycle.
  • Landlords and property managers. Appliances supplied with a rental, such as heaters, ovens and washing machines, should be verifiably safe.
  • Anyone using hired or second-hand equipment.

How it works

We come to you, anywhere in Auckland. Our qualified electrical professionals test each appliance, tag it, and give you a register of every item tested, so your compliance records are sorted in one visit. Failed items are clearly identified with practical advice on repair or replacement.

Why eCertify

Test and tag is often sold as a box-ticking exercise by non-electrical operators. Our testers are qualified electrical professionals backed by registered inspectors, so when something fails, you get a real answer about why, and what to do about it.
