Three things, every time.
The callout. Travel and mileage anywhere in the Auckland region. There is no travel charge on top and no zone pricing.
The inspection and testing. A registered electrician or EWRB-registered electrical inspector tests the installation with instruments, not by looking at it: insulation resistance, earth continuity, loop impedance, RCD trip times and polarity, then checks the switchboard, the protection and the accessible wiring against the wiring rules.
The paperwork. Where the installation is safe, eCertify issues the certificate on the day. Where it is not, you get a written report that lists every fault found, what it means in plain English, and how urgent it is. The report is yours to use, including in a sale negotiation.
Repairs. An inspection tells you what is wrong; it does not include fixing it. If eCertify finds something you want put right, it is quoted separately and the price is confirmed with you before any work starts. Minor faults can often be fixed on the day, and the cost is still flagged first.
Meter work. eCertify is not a metering equipment provider and does not install, relocate, re-seal or inspect energy meters. That is arranged through your energy retailer.
One thing worth knowing before you book: if the inspector finds a section of the installation that is an immediate fire or safety risk, eCertify disconnects it on the spot and tells you straight away. It is rare, and you would want to know either way.
A pre-purchase electrical inspection with eCertify is NZ$249.90 including GST, all inclusive. A building report will usually say something like "possible old cabling" and stop there. The electrical inspection is what turns that line into a tested answer, with a report you can put in front of the vendor. Set against a rewire that can run to tens of thousands of dollars, it is the cheapest piece of due diligence in the purchase.
It depends which document you have been asked for, and the name on the letter is usually not the name of the certificate. Insurers and banks generally want an energy works certificate, which is NZ$269.90 including GST with eCertify. A council or building consent sign-off is NZ$259.90 including GST. If you are not sure which one you need, send us the letter and we will tell you before anything is booked.
A certificate of compliance, the document an electrician issues for work they have just done, is not something eCertify sells separately. It comes from whoever did the work. If you are being asked to certify existing wiring, the document is a certificate of verification, and it is on the table above.
The difference is nearly always in what is left out. A lower figure may exclude the callout, the written report, or the testing itself, and a visual walk-through with no instruments is not an inspection. A higher figure is sometimes an hourly rate with no cap.
eCertify's prices are fixed for a reason: you know the total before the visit, the report is always included, and the inspector does not earn anything by finding faults. Every finding in an eCertify report is cited to a named regulation or standard. A finding that cannot be cited is not a finding.
For a home buyer, yes, almost without exception. For an owner who has noticed tripping, flickering, warm switches or old cable in the roof, yes, because the alternative is guessing. For a vendor, a pre-sale certificate of verification removes the one line in a building report that stalls a sale.
Where the installation tests clean, you get that in writing and the peace of mind is the product. Where it does not, you find out at NZ$249.90 instead of at the insurance claim.
