An ESC (Electrical Safety Certificate) and COC (Certificate of Compliance) are issued by the electrician who carried out the work. An ROI (Record of Inspection) is issued by a registered inspector after inspecting high-risk work such as mains work. A CoV (Certificate of Verification) confirms an existing installation is electrically safe, and is what insurers, banks and councils usually mean by an energy works certificate. Our certification guide explains each in plain English.
Not legally. But many insurers now require electrical certification before they will cover a new home purchase, and the buyer's finance usually depends on insurance being in place. We have seen missing certification hold up sales, stop offers and cause agreements to fall through. A pre-sale certificate of verification removes that roadblock before it can affect your sale.
Your energy retailer will require a verification of the electrical installation before they reconnect the power. Our power restoration certificate of verification is $269.90 all inclusive, and where the installation is safe we issue it on the day, so your provider can switch you back on.
Our honest advice is don't do your own electrical work. If it's already done, our homeowner wiring inspection ($549.90) checks the installation with a fine-tooth comb against NZECP51. If it's safe and compliant we certify it; if not, you get a clear remedial report first. Please be upfront about homeowner wiring when you book.
From $259.90 for a building consent (BCA) certificate and $269.90 for insurance or power restoration certificates. Prices are all inclusive of callout, testing and certification. Any remedial work is quoted and confirmed before we proceed.
$249.90, all inclusive of callout, a full suite of electrical testing and a comprehensive written report you can use in negotiations and share with your lawyer. With full re-wires costing $20,000 to $30,000, the report routinely pays for itself many times over.
Our published prices are fixed and all inclusive: callout, mileage, inspection, testing, and your certificate or report. If remedial work is needed, it is always quoted and confirmed with you before we proceed. No surprises.
Most inspections take one to two hours on site. Where the installation is safe, we issue certification on the spot, the same day. We can usually book you in within a day or two, and we fit in urgent jobs where possible, including arranging access directly with listing agents for property purchases.
Small issues are usually fixed on the spot, with any costs confirmed with you first, so we can still certify the same day. Larger issues get a written report with solutions and a formal quote. Once the remedial work is complete, we return to re-inspect and issue certification. Anything posing an immediate fire or safety risk must be disconnected on the day for your safety.
Test and tag is the safety inspection and electrical testing of portable appliances, with the result recorded on a dated tag. How often depends on the environment: construction sites typically need testing every 3 months, while most office equipment is on a 5-yearly cycle. We come to you anywhere in Auckland and provide a full register of every item tested.
