Home Owners - Visual Electrical Safety Check

Worried about your Auckland home's electrical installation? Been told your home may need a rewire? eCertify's home electrical safety check is a visual check, usually NZ$249.90, at a special price of NZ$99.90 including GST anywhere in Auckland until 30 November 2026.

eCertify goes through your home's installation area by area and gives you a written report, filled in on site. Each area is rated Excellent, Good, Average, Poor, or Unsafe (requires immediate attention), with notes, recommendations and photos where useful.

Who books a safety check

Usually one of four people. Somebody who has been told the house needs a rewire and wants to know more before spending. Somebody who has had a warning sign: a burning smell, a warm socket, breakers that keep tripping, lights that dim when the jug goes on. A landlord who wants to know where they stand. And somebody who has just bought a place and wants a list of what to deal with first.

All four want the same thing, which is an honest picture rather than a sales pitch. This check is a report, not a quote with a check attached.

What we look at

The point of supply and service line, the meterboard, the earthing and bonding you can see, exterior fittings, mains and subcircuit cabling, the main switchboard and any distribution boards, light fittings, outlets and switches, hot water, appliance supply leads and smoke alarms. We are looking for two different things: work that was done incorrectly, and work that was fine once but has deteriorated.

Damp areas get particular attention. Bathrooms, laundries, under the house and anything outdoors are where the wrong fitting for the location turns up most often.

What a visual check does not do

It does not include testing, so it cannot measure hidden faults in wiring, how well the earthing works, or how fast an RCD trips. It is not a certificate. If you are buying, a pre-purchase electrical inspection includes testing. If an insurer, bank, council or power company wants a document, you need a certificate of verification instead. How long it takes

About an hour on site for a typical home, longer for a larger property. We need access to every room and to the switchboard. You do not need to stay for all of it.

What the report tells you

Every area, with its rating and plain notes on what was seen. The point of the report is that you can read it yourself and understand what is urgent, what should be planned, and what is simply worth knowing.

If something looks like an immediate danger, eCertify tells you on the spot and, with your permission, switches off the affected part until it is repaired.

What the price includes

eCertify's NZ$99.90 price, including GST, is fixed for Auckland until 30 November 2026. It covers the callout and travel anywhere in Auckland, the visual check and your written report. Any repairs are quoted separately and confirmed with you first, with no obligation. You can use any electrician you like.
