Are you a homeowner thinking about completing electrical work in your home?
Short answer - DON’T!
If you’ve already completed homeowner wiring work - we may be able to help.

IMPORTANT

As a rule - we DO NOT sign off homeowner wiring work. There are not many inspectors who will.

In fact, we wish that NZECP51 did not exist - and we are actively pushing for it to be taken out of legislation.

WHY?

Because we have seen many fires, property damage and shock injuries caused by improperly wired homes.

We’ve also fully re-wired homes that were improperly wired

A job that would have cost the client $10K to get completed by a professional - but ended up costing them $25K total for their work and our rectification. Not to mention their wasted time!

SO if you are only ‘thinking about it at this stage’ - STOP - DON’T!
Get in a professional.

You wouldn’t carry out your own dental work

Dont carry out your own electrical work.

IF YOU’RE IN A BIND

If you’ve already completed the homeowner wiring, we may be able to help.

Our fully registered and qualified inspectors will thoroughly inspect all parts of your electrical installation, with a fine tooth comb.

We’ll map out the full installation, check all cable runs, all protection and all connections.

We’ll carry out a full suite of electrical testing - In some cases this may require removal of wallboard or other fixings unless you’ve taken images along the way.

OUTCOMES

- If we find that your installation is safe and up-to-code, and has been installed exactly as per NZECP51, we can issue a Certificate of Verification (Energy Works Certificate)
(this document certifies that your installation is electrically safe. It is needed for both insurance and building code compliance purposes)

- If we find indications that the electrical work has not been installed correctly - or has degraded to an unsafe state due to age - we then build a report of remedial work required before certification can be issued.

PLEASE NOTE:
The latter outcome will be highly likely - we haven’t been to a homeowner wiring job yet where something didn’t need to be rectified.

IMPORTANT NOTE

You may be inclined to try and select a lower cost certification option. Please don’t.

We’ve been doing this for 15+ years, we can tell when homeowner wiring has been carried out.

Please be aware that if we find that this has occurred, you will be charged in full for the site visit, and we will no longer assist with certification.

We expect our clients to be honest and transparent with us at all times - In return we’ll do what we can to get you sorted.

REMEDIAL WORK

Small issues can be resolved on-site, allowing us to certify on the day.
Note: additional costs may apply for repairs, our technicians will let you know the costs on-site

Larger issues will be assessed and we'll provide quotes for remedial work required.

Once the remedial work has been completed, we issue certification for the work we've done AND a certificate of verification for the entire installation.
Note: If another electrical firm carries out the repairs, we’ll need to sight their electrical certification for the work completed, prior to issuing certification for the full home
if too much time has elapsed between our site visit and the remedial work, another full verification may be required - this is case dependent

At all times we'll keep you informed of any additional cost BEFORE carrying out the work

NOTES

All inclusive: callout/milage, inspection and testing, electrical certification OR full electrical report detailing remedial work.
